Castlewellan Holiday Week 2017 is upon us, 5th August – 12th August
Castlewellan Holiday Week is a time to come and be refreshed, receive good teaching and worship together. As well as being a conference, the word holiday is in the name for a reason – it’s a time to get away, to relax with family, to catch up with old friends and to make some new ones. We have a full programme to cater for all ages, with lots of choice of what to avail of each day.
Although every day is different, here’s a run through a typical one at CHW16:
Starting the day
You can take your morning at your pace, enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake or campsite, or join the early morning prayer meeting in the castle.
9.30am – Morning Worship
The Morning Worship starts off the programme each day. This session starts with All Together Worship, and then at 10am the children and young people head off to their own programmes. Every age group has its own set of dedicated leaders who with work with your children and young people all week. In the main marquee we’ll continue with worship, teaching, prayer ministry and small groups – as well as that important tea and coffee break!
Enjoy lunch in the castle for all castle residents, cook up something for yourself in your caravan or tent, or visit one of the cafes or restaurants in Castlewellan town.
The afternoon programme hosts a variety of workshops and activities for all ages. These can range from organised activities that need to be pre-booked – archery, canoeing etc, to team games of football and hockey, to craft activities and more leisurely hobbies. This year, we will also be adding some seminars to different parts of the activities programme.
The afternoon is also the perfect time to explore the surrounding area, with Newcastle town and the Mourne Mountains only a short drive away.
Like lunchtime, castle residents have their meals provided, and for everyone else you have lots of choice – cook for yourself or venture out into Castlewellan and the nearby towns or villages.
7pm – Evening Programme
We gather again every evening for a varied programme, ranging from worship and teaching to family fun nights!
Our youth and children’s team run separate programmes for their age groups each evening, with some special events where everyone is together! Again, this can range from worship events to high energy games or chill out sessions.
9.30pm – Late Evening Programme
For those who like to keep themselves going in the evenings, we have additional programmes where you can get to know more people through a range of activities – the CHW quiz, Room 104, and many more!
And it all starts again tomorrow.
*On Wednesday afternoon we host an ‘Open Afternoon’ with some activities for all the family – this is free so we encourage everyone to invite friends down for the day to experience some of the Castlewellan buzz!
